Son of jada, joseph

(¤ 1863, † 1936) Dermatologist, born in September 1863 in Liegnitz/Silesia. Studied medicine in Göttingen, Heidelberg, Leipzig and Breslau. Doctorate in 1887 in Breslau. Dermatological training with AL. Siegesmund at the Allerheiligen Hospital in Breslau. In 1896 he was appointed associate professor at the University Clinic of Bern (1896-1917), succeeding Edmund Lesser. From 1903 he was a full professor in Bern. In 1913 Jadassohn was one of the co-founders of the Swiss Dermatological Society. In 1917, as successor to Albert Neisser, he was appointed to the Dermatological Clinic of the University of Wroclaw (1917-1931). His successor in Bern was Oskar Naegeli. Jadassohn was editor of the 23-volume handbook for skin and venereal diseases. His son Werner Jadassohn also became a dermatologist. Joseph Jadassohn later returned to Switzerland and died in Zurich in 1936. In Nazi Germany at the time, this famous German dermatologist of Jewish descent was denied all honours. Among his students were Bruno Bloch, Felix Lewandowsky and Georg Arndt. Field(s) of research: Tuberculosis, dermatophytosis, allergology; skin physiology.
