Oleandri folium

The drug contains cardiac glycosides with the main active ingredient oelandrin, as well as flavonoids.

The drug is not in use. Negative monograph of the Commission E. Extracts of oelander leaves used to be used instead of digitalis. Today also still present in combination preparations.

Fixed combinations of:

• Adonis herb liquid extract
• Lily of the valley dry extract
• Sea onion dry extract
• dry extract of oleander leaves.

Effects: A fixed combination of Adonidis herba (Adonis herb liquid extract), Convallariae herba (Lily of the Valley dry extract), Scillae bulbus (Sea onion dry extract) and Oleandri fol ium (Oleander leaf dry extract) negatively affects the conduction of the heart and positively affects the threshold of the heart.

Indications: Fixed combinations of this composition are used in impaired cardiac output with accompanying circulatory lability.

Contraindications: Use should be avoided in existing heart failure of NYHA stages III and IV, during therapy with digitalis glycosides, potassium deficiency, digitalis intoxication, bradycardia, or ventricular tachycardia.

Adverse effects: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach upset, irregular pulse or cardiac arrhythmia may occur in rare cases.

Druginteractions: In case of simultaneous intake of calcium, quinidine, saluretics, laxatives or in case of long-term therapy with glucocorticoids, the effects and side effects may be increased.

Dosage:
In adults, the daily dose of solid and single-dose dosage forms ranges from 270 to 540 MSE, and 3101 MSE for liquid dosage forms.
The extracts are mixed in a ratio of 25: 15: 25: 25.

This results in the following composition for solid dosage forms: adonis herb liquid extract 0.03 mg total glycosides (=25 MSE), lily of the valley herb dry extract 0.005 mg total glycosides (=15 MSE), sea onion dry extract 0.009 mg total glycosides (=25 MSE) and oleander leaf dry extract 0.004 mg total glycosides (=25 MSE).

For liquid dosage forms, the following compositions are obtained per 100 ml
:adonis herb liquid extract 5.99 mg total glycosides (=5,000 MSE), lily of the valley herb dry extract 0.97 mg total glycosides (=3.125 MSE), sea onion dry extract 1.73 mg total glycosides (=5,000 MSE) and oleander leaf dry extract 0.86 mg total glycosides (=5,000 MSE).
