The thorny Hauhechel is a winterless semi-shrub that grows to heights of between 10 and 80 cm and has strong taproots up to 50 cm long and thorny, red stems. The leaves are serrated, the flowers of the shrub are solitary in the leaf axils, their petals are pink.
