Baby oils

Baby oils are suitable for the sensitive skin of babies as bath oils as well as massage oils. Gently massaging baby skin is a "feel-good" effect and is beneficial for skin care. The warmed up baby oil is distributed on both palms of the hands. The skin is gently moved back and forth with the fingers and palms of the hands without tugging or tearing. Alternatively, so-called "oil-in-water emulsions" - i.e. creams or lotions - can be used, whereby natural vegetable oils should be used for the oil component. Such oils are also used in finished skin care products. The percentage of these oils in the total formulation is important. It is to be demanded that the pollution of these oils by pollutants, e.g. by relevant amounts of aromatic hydrocarbons(MOAH), is minimized. These could contain carcinogenic substances. Further contamination through technical processing of the oils can be caused by PAH compounds.

The following natural oils and products are used in the different baby oils: shea nut oil, almond oil, bisabolol, macadamia extract, aloe vera, soybean oil, sunflower oil, apricot kernel oil, shea butter, grape seed oil, camomile extracts, calendula extracts, jojoba oil, evening primrose seed oil, sea buckthorn extracts, pomegranate extracts.

Pentaten Baby fragrance-free juice oil contains paraffin oil with relevant proportions of MOAH.

According to Öko-Test (special issue no. 1609 p. 208), the following baby oils certified as natural cosmetics are recommended: Calendula Body Oil (Martina Gebhardt), Lavera Baby&Kinder Sensitive Care Oil (Laverana), Weleda Baby&Kind Calendula Care Oil fragrance-free (Weleda), whereby the Laverana product shows the most favourable price-performance ratio.
