Oleum Cocos is a white to yellowish, slightly rancid smelling vegetable fat obtained from the flesh of the nuts of the coconut palm. It has a total fat content of 60-70%. A distinction is made between naive coconut oil and refined (pressed at a higher temperature) Cocois oleum raffinatum, which is monographed in Ph. Eur.8.

The naïve coconut oil contains 45% lauric acid, 20% myristic acid, 9% caprylic acid, 10% capric acid, 7% palmitic acid, 5% stearic acid.
