Isolated focal cortical dysplasia is a rare, genetic, non-syndromic cerebral malformation. It is due to abnormal neuronal migration. Isolated focal cortical dysplasia is characterized by variably sized focal malformations in any part of the cerebral cortex.

Clinically, the clinical picture is characterized by drug-resistant epilepsy (which usually leads to reduced intelligence) and behavioral disturbances.

MRI reveals abnormalities (e.g., abnormal white and/or gray matter signal, blurred transition between gray and white matter, localized volume loss, cortical thickening, abnormal gyral pattern, abnormal hippocampus).
