GINA = acronym for "Global Initiative for Asthma". The GINA guidelines are guidelines for the diagnosis, classification and treatment of bronchial asthma issued by the "Global Initiative for Asthma".

The Global Initiative on Asthma (GINA) was established to raise awareness of asthma among health professionals, health authorities and the community and to improve asthma prevention and management as part of a coordinated global effort. GINA produces scientific reports on asthma, promotes the dissemination and implementation of recommendations and supports international cooperation in asthma research.

The GINA guidelines are available for download from the GINA website in the form of so-called "pocket guides" in several languages. The corresponding recommendations are usually revised annually (see ginasthma.org below).
