Sigmund, carl von, knight of ilanor

(¤ 27.8. 1810, † 1883) Surgeon. Carl Ludwig Sigmund was born in Schässburg/ Transylvania. Doctorate in 1837 at the University of Pest. 1841 scientific travels to Germany, France, Belgium and England. 1842 appointment as primary physician of a surgeon. Department in the General Hospital in Vienna. 1843 habilitation. In 1848 he separated the syphilitic from the general dermatological department. Since 1849 head of the department for venereal diseases at the General (University) Hospital in Vienna.1870 he was elevated to knighthood. Sigmund died in Padua in 1883. For Vienna, the name Sigmund is indelibly connected with the teaching of syphilis and its treatment. His successor was Isidor Neumann.
