Endocrinological itching; itching endocrinological, pruritus endocrinoloigscher;

• Itching may occur in the following endocrinological disorders:
• diabetes mellitus (see also diabetes mellitus skin changes)
• Hyper/hypothyroidism (see also thyroid gland diseases Skin changes)
• Hyperparathyroidism
• Estrogen deficiency states (menopause)

Hyperthyroidism as well as hypothyroidism can lead to generalized itching. In hypothyroidism, the accompanying xerosis of the skin seems to play a reinforcing role.

Secondary hyperparathyroidism appears to play a role in nephrogenic itching.

Hormonal factors play a role in postmenopausal genital itching. Hormone substitution is an effective treatment option in this case.
