Very rare (<20 published cases), solitary, plaque-shaped tumor occurring in children (also congenital) and adults, which can occur in the extremities as well as in the head and neck region.

Clinically, there are few spectacular, brownish, reddish-brown or red, moderately indurated, surface smooth, slightly raised but also atrophic plaques.

Spindle cell non-encapsulated well vascularized tumor plaque that covers the cuts and also the upper subcutis. The strand-like tumor clusters overgrow the skin appendages and often run parallel to the epidermis surface. They homogeneously express CD34, more rarely actin, but not S-100 protein and desmin.

Remark: It is important to distinguish the tumour from the dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans which also expresses CD34 (possibly use of fish analysis).
