The Global Disease Burden (GBD) 2013 study has collected data on the worldwide prevalence of the 306 most important diseases. The burden of disease was then

• Disabilitly-adjusted life years(DALYs)
• Life lost to a disease(YLLs)
• Years lived within disability(YLDs)

subdivided. A DALY therefore corresponds to a lost healthy year.

The Global Disease Burden (GBD) 2013 study includes data on 15 dermatological diseases in 188 countries. Skin diseases accounted for 1.79% of total DALYs in 2013 due to disease and accidents. They rank 18th as the cause of global DALYs. Non-fatal YLDs are calculated to be 36.4 million years.

For dermatological diseases, the following frequencies of DALYs resulted from these data:

• Dermatitis (atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, seborrhoeic dermatitis): 0.38%
• Acne vulgaris: 0,29%
• psoriasis vulgaris: 0,19%.
• Urticaria: 0,19%
• Viral diseases: 0,16%
• Dermatomycoses: 0,15
• Scabies: 0,07%
• melanoma: 0,06%
• Pyoderma: 0,05%
• Cellulite: 0,04%
• Carcinomas of the skin: 0,03%.
• Decubitus: 0,03%
• Alopecia areata: 0,01%
• All other skin diseases taken together: 0,12%.
