Celsus, aulus cornelius

(¤  30 BC - 50 AD) Encyclopedist, working in Rome. Systematic description of skin diseases such as psoriasis vulgaris, boils, carbuncles, ignis sacer (= erysipelas), favus, kerion celsi (tinea capitis), sykosis (folliculitis barbae), acrochordon (stem wart), alphos (vitiligo), scabies, impetigo. Celsus also recommends the unpurified wool fat as a therapeutic agent. Celsus carried out the extirpation of varicose veins for the first time.
