Soytrimonium chloride (inci)

"Trimonium" means a quaternary trimethylammonium salt. Soytrimonium chloride is used in cosmetic formulations. The mixture acts as an emulsifier (a surface-active substance used as an excipient in cosmetic products to form 2 immiscible liquids - e.g. The mixture acts as an emulsifier ( surfactant (washing-active substance; improves the even distribution of the products during application), antistatic agent (reduces static charges by neutralizing the electric charge on the surface, for example of hair) and as a hair conditioner (makes the hair easy to comb, smooth, soft and shiny and gives it volume) and as a preservative: substance used in cosmetic preparations as a preservative. Inhibits the growth of microorganisms.

The framework conditions for preservatives which may be used in cosmetics are defined in the EC Cosmetics Regulation - 1223/2009 - Annex V.
