Ppg-5-laureth-5 (inci)

PPG-5-Laureth-5 is a substance which is used in cosmetic formulations where it acts as an emulsifier (a surfactant which is used in cosmetic products as an excipient to combine two immiscible liquids - e.g. oil and water - into one emulsion), emollient (makes the skin smooth and supple) and viscosity regulator (increases or decreases the viscosity of cosmetic products).

"laureth-" means a PEG (polyethylene glycol) ether of lauryl alcohol The number after "Laureth-" indicates the average number of molecular units -CH2-CH2-O-.
"PPG" means a PPG (polypropylene glycol) derivative. The number after "PPG-" indicates the average number of molecular units -CH2-CH2-CH2-O-.
