Ppg-24-glycereth-24 (inci)

PPG is the acronym for "polypropylene glycol", the polymer of propylene glycol (1,2-propanediol), a dihydric alcohol. The number after "PPG" indicates the average number of propylene glycol molecular units, for "PPG-24" this is 24 propylene glycol molecular units; "glycereth-24" denotes a PEG (polyethylene glycol) ether of glycerol. The number after "glycereth-", here 24, indicates the average number of molecular units -CH2-CH2-O-.

PPG-24-glycereth-24 is used in cosmetic formulations. The mixture of substances acts as an emulsifier (surface-active substance which is used in cosmetic formulations as an additive to combine two immiscible liquids - e.g. oil and water - to form an emulsion).
