Ppg-20 butyl ether (inci)

PPG-20 butyl ether is a substance used in cosmetic formulations where it acts as an emollient (makes the skin smooth and supple) and surfactant (washing-active substance; improves the even distribution of the products during application).
"PPG" here means a PPG (polypropylene glycol) derivative. The number after "PPG-" indicates the average number of molecular units -CH2-CH2-CH2-O-. "Butyl" usually designates butanol (1-butanol or n-butanol) as the alcoholic component or, in general, a saturated hydrocarbon chain with 4 carbon atoms; "ether" designates a linkage product of two alcohols.
