Potassium sulphites (inci)

"Potassium..." refers to the element potassium, "sulphite" salts/esters of sulphurous acid, H2SO3.

Potassium sulfite is used in cosmetics. The substance acts as a preservative (inhibits the growth of microorganisms - The general conditions for preservatives which may be used in cosmetics are defined in the EC Cosmetics Regulation - 1223/2009 - Annex V). Furthermore, Potassium has a hair curling or straightening effect (enables hair to be straightened or curled by changing its chemical structure).
