Potassium carrageenan (inci)

"Potassium' means the element potassium, 'carrageenan' means extracts of carrageenanum, the Irish moss, a dried thallus of various species of red algae.

The mixture of substances, Potassium carrageenan, is used in cosmetic formulations. It acts as an antistatic agent (reduces electrostatic charges (e.g. of the hair), binder (ensures the cohesion of powdery products), emulsion stabilizer (supports the emulsion formation and improves the product stability), film former (forms a film on skin, hair or nails) and as viscosity regulator (increases or decreases the viscosity (toughness) of cosmetic products).
