Piper nigrum extract (inci)

Piper nigrum extract is an extract from the dried, unripe, unpeeled and initially green, but after drying still black seeds (peppercorns) of Piper nigrum, the black pepper, a climbing plant of the pepper family. The plant is cultivated in India, Madagascar, China and neighbouring countries. Piper nigrum extract is obtained by steam distillation from the (unpeeled) seeds.

2-9% trans piperine (non-toxic alkaloid), chavicin, piperettine, 1.0-3.5% essential oil and monoterpenes (limonene, phellandrene, linalool).

Piper nigrum extract is used in cosmetic formulations. It has a strengthening and skin refreshing effect (creates a pleasant feeling on skin or hair).
