Myristamidopropyl betaine (inci)

"Myristamide" means the amide of myristic acid (tetradecanoic acid amide) Betaine is a derivative of the amino acid glycine and is a by-product of sugar production, e.g. from sugar beet molasses (beta vulgaris, hence "betaine").

The substance acts as an antistatic agent (reduces static charges by neutralising the electrical charge on the surface, for example of hair), surfactant (washing-active substance), hair conditioning agent (hair becomes easier to comb, smoother, softer and shinier and gains more volume) and foaming agent (increases foam formation and improves volume, structure and durability of the foam).
