Melissa officinalis leaf water (inci)

Melissa officinalis leaf water is the aqueous extract of lemon balm, a herbaceous plant of the labiate family (see under lemon balm), which can grow up to 60 cm in size. When the leaves are rubbed into the water, a pleasant, intensive lemon aroma is released. The distillate is obtained by steam distillation from the flowers, leaves, stems and stalks.

Melissa officinalis leaf water is used in cosmetic formulations. The distillate has a strengthening effect on skin or hair, furthermore as a fragrance (reduces or inhibits the basic smell or taste of a product).
