Melissa officinalis extract (inci)

Melissa officinalis extract is the extract obtained by steam distillation from lemon balm, a herbaceous plant of the labiate family (see under lemon balm), which can grow up to 60 cm in size. When the leaves are rubbed in, a pleasant, intensive lemon aroma is released. The distillate is obtained by steam distillation from the flowers, leaves, stems and stalks.

Melissa officinalis extract is used in cosmetic formulations. The extract has a strengthening effect on the skin or hair, furthermore as a fragrance (reduces or inhibits the basic smell or taste of a product).
