Melissa officinalis distillate (inci)

Melissa officinalis distillate is the aqueous extract of lemon balm, a herbaceous plant of the labiate family (see under lemon balm), which can grow up to 60 cm in size. When the leaves are rubbed in, a pleasant, intensely lemony aroma is released. The distillate is obtained by steam distillation from the flowers, leaves, stems and stalks.

Melissa officinalis distillate is used in cosmetic formulations. The distillate has a strengthening effect on skin or hair, furthermore as a fragrance (reduces or inhibits the basic smell or taste of a product).
