Lactobacillus/skeletonema ferment (inci)

Lactobacillus/Skeletonema ferment is the end product of the fermentation of Skeletonema by Lactobacillus. The product is used in cosmetic formulations. It acts as a free radical scavenger and protects the skin from harmful effects of external influences.

Skeletonema is an algae species that causes a reddish-brown discoloration of the water in high cell densities in the Baltic Sea authorities and bays during the summer months. Extracts of Skeletonema (e.g. the ribbed diatom - Skeletonema costatum-) are used in cosmetic (and pharmaceutical) formulations. They have anti-inflammatory effects.
