Gellan gum (inci)

Gellan gum, a polysaccharide produced by fermentation, is used in cosmetic formulations. The multifunctional hydrocolloid acts as a film former (forms a film on skin, hair or nails when applied) and viscosity regulator (increases or decreases the viscosity of cosmetic products).

Furthermore, Gellan gum can be used in a wide variety of products for gelling, texturing, stabilising, suspending and structuring, such as in food, care, pharmaceutical and medical products (Osmalek T et al. 2014; Mahdi MH et al. 2015).
