Cyclomethicone (inci)

The cyclic silicone oil "Cyclomethicone" is a mixture of low molecular weight, liquid, cyclic siloxanes (silicones), such as octamethylcyclotetrasiloxanes, decamethylcyclopentasiloxanes (see structural formula) , dodecamethylcyclohexasiloxanes.

Cyclometicone is used in cosmetic products as synthetic oil component. Cyclometicone acts as an antistatic agent (reduces static charges by neutralizing the electrical charge on the surface of skin and hair). Furthermore, the cyclic silicone oil acts as a moisturizer, solvent and viscosity regulator (increases or decreases the viscosity of cosmetic products).
