Phosphatidylinositol-3,4,5-triphosphate (PIP3) is a phospholipid of the cell membrane. Like PIP2, PIP3 occurs on the cytosolic side of the cell membrane.

PIP2 plays an important role in the transduction of extracellular signals in the cell (e.g. in the signal transduction pathway of the activated B cell) and controls the processes of endocytosis.

Phosphoinositide 3-kinases (PI3K) convert PIP2 to phosphatidylinositol-3,4,5-triphosphate (PIP3). The reverse reaction from PIP3 to PIP2 is carried out by the phosphatase PTEN (see PTEN gene below).
