Palmitoleic acid, chemically also known as cis-hexadec-9-enoic acid, is a monounsaturated omega-7 fatty acid with 16 carbon atoms (C16H30O2). Its salts and esters are called palmitoleates.

The fatty acid is found in all animal tissues. Palmitoleic acid is also a component of numerous vegetable and animal fats (milk fat, depot fat, in vegetable oils). Sea buckthorn oil (Hippophae rhammnoides) and macadamia nut oil contain palmitoleic acid in high concentrations. Glyceryl palmitoleate (INCI) serves as emulsifier in cosmetic formulations.

The salts/esters of palmitoleic acid are called palmitoleates.
