Palmitoleic acid, chemically also known as cis-hexadec-9-enoic acid, is a monounsaturated omega-7 fatty acid with 16 carbon atoms (C16H30O2). Its salts and esters are called palmitoleates.
The fatty acid is found in all animal tissues. Palmitoleic acid is also a component of numerous vegetable and animal fats (milk fat, depot fat, in vegetable oils).
