IL31 Gene

The IL31 gene (IL31 is the acronym for interleukin 31) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12q24.31. The gene encodes the cytokine IL31, which is mainly produced by activated T cells of the Th2 type. IL31 is a ligand for a heterodimeric receptor consisting of IL31RA (MIM 609510) and OSMR (MIM 601743). The receptor is constitutively expressed on epithelial cells and keratinocytes. IL31 may be involved in promoting Ig-E mediated allergic skin diseases and in regulating other allergic diseases such as atopic bronchial asthma.
