Hydroxyapatite (inci)

Mineral from the mineral class of the "phosphates, arsenates and vanadates", with the formula: Ca5[OH|(PO4)3] which occurs naturally at different locations. Hydroxyapatite forms the mineral basis of the hard substance (bones, teeth) of all vertebrates. Finely ground hydroxyapatite is used in cosmetic formulations as: abrasive (removes any impurities from the body surface, supports mechanical tooth cleaning and/or improves gloss), emulsion stabilizer (supports emulsion formation and improves the resistance and durability of emulsions) and swelling agent.
