Glycerol esters from root resin are obtained from the root resin of conifers. They are authorised in the EU as food additive number E 445. Glycerol esters from root resin may only be used for the surface treatment of citrus fruits. Furthermore they serve as stabilizers for certain beverages, such as flavoured, cloudy alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages (max. 100 mg/l are permitted). Harmful side effects are not known so far.
