A deciduous coniferous tree belonging to the pine family that grows up to 35 m tall and is mainly found in northern regions. The larch is the only conifer in this country that sheds all its needles every year. Occurrence: Eurasian mountain tree, in the Alps,
Carpathians and in Slovenia. Larch wood is one of the hardest and most durable softwoods and is used in the construction industry for stairs, doors, windows and as wall and ceiling cladding.
The resin, which is obtained by cutting or scoring the bark, is used for pytotherapeutic purposes, see larch turpentine.
