DefinitionThis section has been translated automatically.

Annual herbaceous meadow plant of the family Orobanchaceae, which reaches a height of 5 to 40 cm. Euphrasia is a hemiparasite that uses sucker roots to extract water and nutrients from the host roots, but can also vegetate without the host. However, the plant needs a host to germinate. Euphrasia rostkoviana flowers from July to September. The flowers are white to purple. Its oblong leaves are about 1.0 cm long and marginally toothed.
Euphrasia rostkoviana grows on meadows up to altitudes of 2300 m.

Occurrence: Germany, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy. Other members of the family are found in northern European countries and in Russia.

The dried aerial parts of Euphrasia rostkoviana, harvested during the flowering period, as well as fresh extracts of the whole plant are used in natural medicine. The name "eyebright" derives from its use in eye complaints.
Active ingredients: Iridoid glycosides such as aucubin, euphroside and catalpol; flavonoids, phenolic carboxylic acids, lignans, small amounts of essential oil.
Indications: for cough and hoarseness; especially tea applications are indicated for conjunctivitis or blepharitis (see below Euphrasia overlay).
