Flavones are a widespread (about 800 substances are known) polyphenolic group of substances in the plant world, which are present in numerous fruits and vegetables.
The name flavones (flavus lat. for yellow) was given after plants such as the dyer's oak, which were used to dye materials yellow. After the wide distribution of other colored or colorless flavones became known, the substance group was called flavonoids.
