An evergreen, herbaceous plant up to 15 cm tall with hairy leaf stalks, red to purple flowers and capsule fruits, which grows in the Alps and the Balkan Mountains and belongs to the primrosefamily. Flowering time: June to September, fruit ripening: July to August one year after flowering.
The roots were used phytotherapeutically, but are no longer important today. Cave: poisonous!

Empirical medicine (historical): Uterine remedy, root disc with rhizomes for snake bites, also used as emmenagogue and abortifacient. Today only used in homeopathy.
