Histological term describing a mature metaplasia of the eccrine ducts. Eccrine squamous syringometaplasia is not a rare histological finding and may be associated with chemotherapy or a variety of non-specific diseases such as infections, neoplastic diseases and inflammatory skin diseases (e.g. scleromyxedema). The changes are mainly observed in the context of chemotherapy.
Various subtypes of syringometaplasia have been described:
- the squamous type
- the mucinous type
- the adenomatous type
