In case of herpes simplex infection with suspected central involvement, immediate consultation of a neurologist. Increase or set the dosage of Aciclovir i.v. to 10 (max. 30) mg/kg bw/day. Alternatively Famciclovir p.o. (Famvir) 3 times/day 250 mg p.o. or Valaciclovir (Valtrex). In case of therapy failure Foscarnet (Foscavir Astra) 3 times/day 40-60 mg/kg bw/day i.v. in 500 ml NaCl solution over 2 hours.
