He studied human medicine at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. 1956 State examination. 1961 Assistant at the Medical Clinic in Mainz. Since 1964 dermatological training in Mainz under G.W. Korting. In 1970 he changed to the dermatological clinic of the Rudolf-Virchow-Hospital Berlin as senior physician. Under G. Stüttgen he completed his habilitation in Berlin in 1971.
