Born on 15.12.1860 on the Faroe Islands, he moved to the Danish mainland to complete secondary school and medical studies. Medical studies in Copenhagen. As he himself had contracted a "polyserositis", on which sunlight had a positive influence, he soon began to research the biological effects of sunlight. 1893 Development of a radiation treatment of smallpox with red light. From 1895 Finsen worked on the therapy of lupus vulgaris (and lupus erythematosus) with UV light. In 1903, one year before his death, he received the Nobel Prize for this groundbreaking work.
