German dermatologist, working in Bonn, Dortmund and Bochum. Born on 10.1.1890, Hermann Fabry began his dermatological training in Bonn with Josef Doutrelepont. He later continued this training with his brother Johannes Fabry in Dortmund. In January 1912 the dermatological clinic was founded in Bochum at the St.-Josef-Hospital. The skin department had 60 beds. The head physician was assisted by 1 assistant doctor, 2 nurses and 1 male nurse. With this minimal staffing, the requirements of dermatology at that time were obviously met. The outbreak of World War I on August 1, 1914 brought about drastic changes for the young hospital. Right at the beginning of the war, the head physician of the dermatological clinic, as well as a whole range of persons from the nursing and administrative departments were drafted into military service. The continued existence of the department could only be ensured by the selfless helpfulness of a dermatologist from Düsseldorf, who unfortunately was not known by name, and who temporarily took over the medical care.
