Diethylhexyl steartae malate is a preparation used in cosmetic formulations. Chemically it is a di-ester of diglycerol with malic acid (not to be confused with maleates, esters and salts of maleic acid) and stearic acid. The substance acts as an emollient and viscosity regulator.
