Surgical procedures for the removal of a fresh thrombus from an arterial or venous blood vessel. However, thrombectomies from the veins are less frequently indicated, as conservative treatment is usually preferred.
In thrombectomy, only the thrombus itself is removed.
In thrombendarteriectomy (TEA), part of the arterial wall (media) is also removed.
