In phlebology, the term F.Trendelenburg refers to patholomgic venous hemodynamics caused by valve insufficiency (e.g. crosses). Due to the lack of valve function, the blood does not flow unidirectionally heartward through a muscle contraction in a vein, but at the same time flows retrogradely back into the periphery. Via insufficient Vv.perforantes, the blood again reaches the deep venous system. See also under recirculation circuit.
