Spanish surgeon and cardiologist, born on 4 June 1906 in Barcelona, died in Barcelona in 1984. Martorell opened a department of angiology in Barcelona. He also founded the journal Angiologia.

Matorell was a member of the Royal Academy of Medicine in Barcelona, received an honorary doctorate from the University of Ireland and was honorary president of the Spanish Society of Angiology.

The hypertonic ulcer (Martorell's ulcer) and the whiplash syndrome are named after Matorell.
