Wintergreen, perennial plant 5 to 20 cm high it has ascending and creeping stems, these are from glabrous to densely hairy. Kidney to heart-shaped leaves, blue-violet, rarely white flowers, flowering time is March to May.
Phytotherapeutically used are the dried aerial parts: stems, leaves and flowers (Gundelrebenkraut/Gundermannkraut - Glechomae herba).
