Herbaceous plant native to Southeast Asia that grows from a tuber, the konjac root, and can grow up to 2.5 m high. The flower has a central spadix surrounded by a leaf that traps attracted insects and thus ensures pollination. The name weeping tree comes from the secretion of small droplets of moisture from the bulb of the flower.
