Caprylic acid (from (lat.) capra or caper for goat, also known as billy goat) is a colourless, oily carboxylic acid that melts at 16°C, has an unpleasant sweaty odour and is soluble in ether, ethanol and chloroform and insoluble in water. The caprylic acid occurs naturally in goat butter, coconut oil, palm kernel oil, etc.
