Aloe vera gel is a product derived from real aloe(aloe vera). Aloe vera gel is obtained from the water-storing parenchyma of the aloe leaves. The high content of polysaccharides (the main components are D-glucose and D-mannose) gives the gel a mucilaginous consistency. The gel also contains the simple sugars glucose, mannose, galactose and xylose, water-soluble vitamins, various amino acids, the enzymes D-glucose and D-mannose. Amino acids, the enzymes amylase, alkaline phosphatase and lipase. Salicylic acid, various glycoproteins and aloenins are also present.
Aloe vera gel is free from aloin, which has a laxative effect.
Aloe vera gel is used cosmetically and naturopathically in a range of indications and applications. Significant superiority was demonstrated in 2 psoriasis studies . The preparations are only rarely used in this indication.
Aloe vera gel is said to be anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and promote wound healing.
