Porins or OMPs(outer membrane proteins) are certain specialized protein channels(transmembrane proteins) that cross the lipid bilayer of Gram-negative bacteria and the membranes of chloroplasts and mitochondria. They serve the regulated exchange of substances. Under certain circumstances, pH, ionic strength and ion constellation, the porins open or close.
