A high fat content in the diet, generally accompanied by a relatively low fibre content, provokes increased bile acid production. Due to a changed intestinal flora which has to deal with the high-fat food slurry, phospholipids, e.g. free fatty acids and DAG, diacylglycerol are released in the intestinal lumen, as well as oxidised secondary bile acids from bile acids.

Diacylglycerol penetrates the epithelial cells of the intestinal mucosa and is able to activate an important signal enzyme, protein kinase C . Proto-oncogenes are formed through protein phospholization reactions. These oncogenes can disturb maturation processes of the cells and thus contribute to carcinogenesis.
